Free, Clean, and 100% Off The Grid!

Our friends at Sol Design lab have developed an object that gives us a glimpse into the future: the SolarPump. Combining vintage gas pumps with an interactive system that harnesses solar energy, they have created a new kind of fueling station—one that charges your mobile electronics and electric bikes.

During the 2010 SXSW festival, Tribe collaborated with Sol Design Lab in promoting these innovative charging stations. A part of the festival's carbon-offsetting green initiative, the SolarPump stations charged the festival staff's electric scooters and were available to the general public to juice up their cell phones or laptops.

If you missed it at SXSW, there will be other opportunities to see this bright future of transportation and carbon-free cities: Saturday May 1st the SolarPump will be at San Antonio's  Solar Fest, (http://www.solarsanantonio.org/SolarFest2010.htm). If you happen to be in California, check it out at the following locations:

• May 22 and 23: Maker Faire Bay Area, San Mateo County Event Center, San Mateo CA.
• September 16-19: 2010 01SJ Biennial: Build Your Own World, Produced by Zer01, San Jose CA.
